Case Study
Challenge
An international cement and aggregate company set an internal goal of replacing a minimum of 5% of the coal used annually in its cement kilns with an alternative clean fuel source. AGS was contacted to assist the client in acquiring a state permit to ultimately use waste plastic as a substitute fuel.
Solution
Working to meet strict deadlines from the state, AGS sourced, sized, and packaged enough waste plastic to run a five-day, 24-hour continuous burn test. This required mobilization of specialized equipment and operators, a crew that had to work five 24-hour days, custom-made containers to feed the kiln, and logistics management.
Results
Within three days – two less than originally anticipated – the equipment, methods, and material were qualified, and the state awarded the company the permit it sought.
